Recently, we’ve been celebrating another team member’s milestone here at Smart IT. Kelvyn Robinson started his journey with us 10 years ago in 2016, joining the team as an apprentice and progressing continuously in his career across departments and management levels.
Now leading our Helpdesk team, Kelvyn proved he was ahead of the curve right from the interview stage. He was offered the role after Jon asked him to name the “North and South bus on the motherboard” and nailed it.
Around two weeks after starting with the team, Kelvyn was tasked with visiting a customer’s site to retrieve information about their devices. Turns out it was a school with over 1000 computers that he needed to log the MAC addresses for, so it was certainly a bumpy introduction to the realities of the IT technician role.
After gaining more experience, Kelvyn moved over to help build up the telecoms side of the business for several years. When the business restructured and the engineering teams were combined, he took over as helpdesk supervisor in a split role. This provided an opportunity to develop management skills across a wider team with increased responsibilities.
Following great success in this senior role, Kelvyn was then promoted to Helpdesk manager and had a supervisor alongside a bigger team. As his managerial skillset progressed, the supervisor was no longer needed as part of the team structure. Kelvyn now manages the helpdesk, escalation and dedicated engineers across the business.

Tony Wilson, Managing Director of Smart IT Group, commented:
“Kelvyn’s journey with us is exactly what we hope to see when someone joins Smart IT. Starting as an apprentice IT engineer, progressing into telecoms, and now leading the helpdesk team – it’s a great example of long-term development and commitment.
He’s someone the team naturally gravitates towards. He’s approachable, always willing to talk things through, and that’s become a real strength in his role – both for supporting the team and keeping communication clear with customers.
Over the past year in particular, he’s continued to drive strong SLA response times and consistently positive customer feedback, reflecting his leadership and attention to detail.
Most importantly, he’s earned the respect of the team, which is something you can’t manufacture. We’re proud to have had him with us for 10 years and to see how far he’s come.”
Jon Proud, Operations Director added:
“Kelvyn Robinson is celebrating an impressive 10 years with the company, marking a decade of dedication, growth, and achievement. Over this time, Kelvyn has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence, earning well-deserved promotions and progressing through the business.
Known for his proactive approach, he is always looking for ways to improve both his own performance and the wider team. His positive attitude and drive to develop have made him a valued member of the organisation, and his journey stands as a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and determination. Well done, Kelvyn!”
Kelvyn is being rewarded for his hard work and dedication over the last 10 years with a holiday paid for by the company and a bottle of his favourite spirit – enjoy!
