Overview

Royal Quays Business Centre occupies two floors of a landmark office building in North Shields, just fifteen minutes from Newcastle city centre. It offers everything from single desks to 150-seat open-plan offices, with free parking, an on-site gym, cycle storage and meeting rooms.

When London investment company Lakeshore Developments acquired the two floors, its ambition was to turn them into premium, high-tech office space, with Smart IT as its technology partner.

The Challenge

To attract and serve tenants of every size, the centre needed technology infrastructure that could handle any requirement, from a single desk to a full open-plan office.

That meant transforming two full floors: power, data, connectivity, security, telecoms, printing and building systems, all managed for multiple tenants and billed accurately.

The Solution

Smart IT delivered the full technology fit-out:

Rewired the building with new power and data outlets, including floor boxes, Cat6 and fibre connectivity, running to a central comms room protected by a secure Paxton access system
Installed a fully managed Cisco UTM firewall to secure the centre and tenant networks, with bandwidth limits and prioritisation
Deployed managed, secure Wi-Fi throughout, with guest access and secure authentication
Installed a fully managed, scalable telecoms system with call recording, reporting and remote working
Fitted out video conference rooms
Provided a managed fleet of printers and copiers in communal areas, with secure printing for every tenant
Set up a simple billing system so the centre can charge tenants for telecoms, printing and IT services
Installed the computer and server hardware that runs all tenant services
Installed automated door entry with key fobs, high-definition CCTV with remote access, and energy-efficient air conditioning
